PCI
Race Radios is a family owned business where we make the time to
race and play. Our test equipment includes a Kreger built four seat
buggy, Trophy Truck #7, Newline Ford F150 prerunner, Trophy Kart,
Currie Enterprises built Jeep rock crawler, three Quads and a Honda
650L Motorcycle. Because we use these vehicles for work and play,
we have a thorough understanding of your needs, wants and desires.
We support the American Sand Association, CORVA and the San Diego
Off-Road coalition. The point is, the dollars you spend at PCI are
kept working in the sport.
With more than 25 years in the off road racing industry, we are
not trying untested or unimproved off the shelf equipment on our
customers.
Since 1987 we have personally raced the products we provide. With
five Baja 1000 wins and numerous class championships in the Mini-Mag
Class, 7s Truck Class, and the Ivan Stewart Pro Truck Class, we
are now racing into the future in the featured Trophy Truck class.
PCI continues to develop race tested state of the art communications
systems. Like Dole Pineapple, in the pineapple industry, we are
peerless in the Off-Road Industry when it comes to communications.
PCI directly represents Icom, Kenwood, Roadmaster, Tekk, Avcomm,
Vertex-Standard and others. We are also sub-dealers for Motorola.
PCI is able to provide the correct product for your specialty application
and back it up with a fully complemented on site technical service
shop.
What does directly representing a
manufacturer mean to you the customer?
1) Two-step or sub-dealers in most cases do not have a technical
service shop. The manufacturer requires direct dealers to have an
on site repair facility.
2) Direct dealers have both product and application knowledge.
3) Direct dealers are directly supported by the factory. Repairs
take less time and are usually a lot less expensive.
4) PCI has the technical ability and engineering skills to build
special application items to work in conjunction with the Manufacturer’s
product. Some examples of this include XM Radio and satellite telephones
wired into your system. Specially designed bracketry for mounting
our systems, in-car camera systems with audio from the headset or
helmet and special base antenna systems that double your range.
Will any off the shelf Two-Way Radio
work in my Sand Rail, Quad or Motorcycle?
PCI Race Radios designs its systems to work in harmony as a complete
unit. Most off the shelf equipment just does not meet this criteria.
PCI designs its racing intercoms to work with most popular Electro
voice 150 ohm noise canceling microphone which we use in our helmets
and headsets. Recently we perfected the microphone design to even
better the sound quality. The new microphones are blue in color
in order to distinguish them from the wanna-bes and look a likes.
We designed our cabling with a 98% braided and shielded mike line.
We then went back and re-designed the cable to include a 98% braided
shield over the entire cable to eliminate a noise problem we found
in only 3% of applications. Within each radio used in conjunction
with a head set or helmet, we match impedance of the microphone
and speakers. PCI prepares every radio to insure its parts won’t
vibrate loose. The quality of our helmet wiring and the care and
preparation of each system are very important to PCI and our reputation
in this very close knit fraternity of desert enthusiasts.
If I crash my vehicle, will my equipment
continue to work?
If you purchased your system from PCI, you can be assured that
it was race prepped to withstand even the hardest of crashes. Non
prepared two-way radios and GPS equipment usually do not work after
a crash or violent landing.
PCI and Global Positioning Systems
(GPS)
Lowrance and PCI have been working closely together for several
years to accommodate the needs of the off-road enthusiast. Other
manufacturers have two plot trails of 1500 position points, which
are almost useless to off-road racers, rock-crawlers, desert explorers,
hunters or duners. Lowrance features ten plot trails of ten thousand
position points each. This enables you to save your favorite trails
with enough detail to show every turn and switchback. The Lowrance
GPS is extremely user friendly and has built in help menus. The
factory support is second to none.
At SCORE and Best In The Desert races, Scott Steinberger and Jesse
Jones (Trophy Truck #7 ), do a complete plot trail of the course.
Complete with danger marks, gas pits and checkpoints, it’s
emailed or downloaded at the race for every competitor using the
PCI system. Robby Gordon remarked after the 2002 Baja 1000, “It
was almost like cheating to have a GPS with Scott’s plot trail.”
Like any GPS, it’s going to break under violent conditions.
This is why PCI takes each unit apart and secures the components
that have a prior history of breaking off the PC board. As you know,
breaking the warranty seal or modifying the product voids the manufacturer’s
warranty. Not so with PCI - our close link with Lowrance allows
units in warranty to be returned through PCI for full factory warranty,
even though we have opened the unit and made off-road modifications.
